Cannes Is Already Delivering Peak Glamour

Cinema, couture and a slightly absurd level of chiffon: the 2026 Cannes Film Festival is officially underway — and the red carpet is already competing with the films for attention.
Every year, Cannes turns the French Riviera into fashion’s most glamorous stage set. It’s where cinema collides with fantasy dressing; where actors become muses, models become movie stars and everyone suddenly remembers the power of a dramatic entrance.
This year’s festival opened at the Grand Théâtre Lumière with an especially historic jury lineup, led by acclaimed director Park Chan-wook — the first Korean jury president in Cannes history — alongside Demi Moore, Ruth Negga, Chloé Zhao and Stellan Skarsgård.
But naturally, the red carpet has already become its own cinematic event.
So far, we’ve seen:
- Bella Hadid bringing sleek old-Hollywood minimalism in Prada
- Demi Moore doing sculptural power dressing in Jacquemus
- Alton Mason delivering full drama in Vivienne Westwood
- Gillian Anderson in a chic column Miu Miu gown
- Daisy Edgar-Jones embracing soft romantic glamour in Balenciaga
- Taylor Russell continuing her reign as fashion’s quiet luxury princess
And honestly? Cannes feels different this year.
After several seasons dominated by stealth wealth and hyper-minimal dressing, personality is creeping back onto the red carpet again. Bigger silhouettes. More theatrical styling. Colour. Volume. Fashion that actually wants to be noticed.
Even the “classic” looks feel less safe than before.
There’s a renewed sense of glamour happening across fashion right now — not in a polished, intimidating way, but in a playful, cinematic one. Which makes Cannes the perfect backdrop for it.
With two more weeks of premieres, afterparties and Riviera outfit changes still to come, this is really only the beginning.
