A beauty advent calendar is a miniature buying exercise disguised as Christmas.
The brands tell you how much everything is worth. The more useful question is how much of it you actually want.
M&S: The Sensible One
At £75, the M&S calendar is the easiest recommendation here. It contains 25 products, including ten full sizes, with names such as Estée Lauder, Floral Street, Pai, Philip Kingsley and This Works.
It is not the most directional edit. It may be the one least likely to produce buyer’s remorse.
Liberty: The Beautiful One
Liberty costs £285 and contains 29 products, 21 of them full-size. The contents include Violette_FR, Augustinus Bader, Sunday Riley, Sisley, Lisa Eldridge, Ilia and a particularly strong run of fragrance.
This feels like a genuine beauty-hall edit rather than a warehouse clearance wearing ribbons. It is expensive. It is also unusually coherent.
Space NK: The Maximal One
Space NK offers 35 products for £275, including 26 full sizes and no repeats from its 2025 calendar. The list moves from Augustinus Bader and La Mer to Fenty, Rare Beauty, Phlur, Vieve and Medik8.
If the aim is opening something genuinely substantial most mornings, the maths is convincing. The risk is volume: thirty-five products can become a beauty routine or a storage problem.
How Wonder Judges “Worth It”
We ignore the biggest number on the box and ask four questions. How many products are full-size? How many would we buy independently? Is there a useful spread across categories? And has the retailer filled the gaps with endless minis of face cream?
A £1,200 value is irrelevant if £700 of it lives untouched in a bathroom drawer.
The Wonder Verdict
M&S is the best-value gift. Liberty is the most desirable curation. Space NK is the biggest serious beauty wardrobe.
Buy the calendar whose contents look most like your actual bathroom—not the one with the loudest saving.
